When redesigning or creating a new website, you need to first analyze your goals and what your clients and prospects want.
Establish Goals for your Website…
When starting a website project (new or redesign) think about what you want your website to do, who you want to reach, and how your website can be an integrated part of your overall marketing and business plans. Step back a moment to think about your overall business goals first and then how a website might play a role both now and in the future, such as:Should it generate leads, sell products/services, provide customer service/support, automate your business, a combination of these or other goals? Are you going to have ads or mailings that direct your prospects and clients to your website? Will they have the same branding or message? What percentage of sales/service would you like to have the website handle?
Provide Clear and Consistent Navigation…
Make sure it is crystal clear how to move around your website. Navigation at the top or on the left side of the web page is where people typically look. Make sure the navigation is the same throughout the website and the meaning of any link, whether it is a text or an image, should be clear to everyone. Even something you think is clear such as “Career Opportunities” may not draw nearly as many job seekers as a simple “Jobs” link!
Emphasize Benefits Not Specific Details or Features…
Make your website user-friendly and lead with the most popular benefits of your products or services. Try not to lead with product specifications or try to show off technical knowledge or terminology; every website has to communicate with a wide range of individuals. Most importantly, remember all users look at a website “tuned into WII FM” (What’s In It For ME!) If they can’t find what THEY are looking for in three clicks or less, they will move on to your competition’s website.
Yes, there are obstacles to success in business and life and lots of excuses.
Some people get sidetracked and never make it.
Others-the ones we admire-get the job done anyway.
It is called DETERMINATION.
Q: How do I create a link to another website such as an industry resource for my clients?
A: Using HTML to create Hyperlinks for your website is easy and can be fun at the same time. This can enhance and ease the navigation on your website or provide resources to add more value to your clients and prospects. There are various types of hyperlinks you can use on your site. For example:
Basic Link to another website
Enter your code like this:
<a href="http://www.yahoo.com">TEXT FOR LINK < /a>
Your page should look like this:
TEXT FOR LINK
The steps above will replace your website with the new website. If you want your website to remain on the client's computer without hitting their "back" button, you can follow the instructions below to create a 2nd (3rd, 4th, etc.) window with the new website.
Link to another website in a new window and keep yours available when they close the new window
Enter your code like this:
< a href="http://www.yahoo.com" target="_new">TEXT FOR LINK < /a>
Your page should still look like this:
TEXT FOR LINK
The difference is that when the user clicks on this it will leave your site alone and create a new window for this new website, until the user closes it. The draw back is that the users cannot use the back button, and may be annoyed and confused if too many windows are on their desktop.
